Toward us you may feel envy To you we might seem strange It's true that our ideas are Not the normal range But basically we're children So please give us a chance For the answer to earth's future's In everybody's hands We find it fascinating To study dinosaurs For fossils of the past Can open secret doors And planning for the future May take us far in space And who knows maybe even We'll end this cruel arms race Oh yes, we are the children The oddballs, kooks and dorks The ones who think up brand new things To do with knives and forks But basically we're children So please give us a chance For the answer to earth's future's In everybody's hands Of monsters, myths and mysteries We'll tell you all we know Famous people's histories And the odds on UFOs Oh yes, we are the children For us the pressure's on To be the artists and musicians And fashion new age homes But basically we're children So please give us chance For the answer to earth's future's In everybody's hands

Socrates, Plato, Copernicus What a legacy they left for us Mozart, Bach, Beethoven too The music of the ages sings to me and you They were children Yes, they were children Once upon a time they were children too They were children Yes, they were children They were children once Just like me, just like you Harriet Tubman led the slaves Hiding in the forest and woods and caves Susan B. Anthony worked for women's rights To get the vote for women she worked days and nights They were children Yes, they were children Once upon a time they were children too They were children Yes, they were children They were children once Just like me, just like you Amelia Earhart flew so high She was not afraid to touch the sky Christa McAuliffe followed her lead In her search for knowledge she has planted a seed They were children Yes, they were children Once upon a time they were children too They were children Yes, they were children They were children once Just like me, just like you So listen to me children, as I sing this song Do not hesitate to dream along Everybody great was once a child You never can predict what greatness you might do So, dream on children Dream on children Everybody great was once a child like you Dream on children Dream on children The future of the world is waiting for you

Went to bed the other evening and my gosh I couldn't sleep I tossed and turned and tumbled and felt that I might weep And then I thought of "Scamper," could I Substitute my bed? I went outside and lay down and slept in the grass instead Just a-scamper, a -scamperin' on You can scamper round a meadow, you can scamper round your mind You can scamper round a problem and just see what you can find If you don't believe me, try it, next time you're in a bind Just scamper, scamper on! I got home from playin' baseball just in time to mow the lawn Dad said I had to do it but my energy was gone Hopefully, I thought of "sCamper," looked for something to Combine I got my bike and hooked it, pulled the lawnmower behind Just a-scamper, a -scamperin' on When I went to school last Wednesday, I forgot I had a test My teacher passed them out and said, "I hope you do your best" In dismay, I thought of "scAmper"--how on earth could I Adapt? I started telling riddles and my teacher laughed and clapped Just a-scamper, a -scamperin' on I was walkin' to my front porch when I came upon a skunk My heart was beating wildly and I knew that I was sunk In my fear, I thought of "scaMper," could I Modify my path? I tiptoed round the back way and jumped right into my bath Just a-scamper, a -scamperin' on You can scamper round a meadow, you can scamper round your mind You can scamper round a problem and just see what you can find If you don't believe me, try it, next time you're in a bind Just scamper, scamper on! My uncle lived along the railroad, had old trains in his back yard But when I went to see him, finding privacy was hard So I started thinking "scamPer," what could I Put to other use? And I made the greatest clubhouse out of a little red caboose Just a-scamper, a-scamperin' on My four brothers and three sisters over TV always fight Disagreein' on which program we should tune in every night Tired of fights, I thought of "scampEr," what could we Eliminate? So we gave away our TV, now we get along just great Just a-scamper, a-scamperin' on My family moved to a new city and I started a new school I didn't know my way around it; I felt just like a fool Feeling blue I thought of "scampeR," was there something to reverse? My attitude I changed, I'm feeling better now not worse Just a-scamper, a-scamperin' on You can scamper round a meadow, you can scamper round your mind You can scamper round a problem and just see what you can find If you don't believe me, try it, next time you're in a bind Just scamper, scamper on! Just scamper, scamper on!

I'm wondering about so many things How bluebirds fly across the sky What sends the snow down to the earth below And leaves the clouds above up in the sky I'm wondering what makes the flowers bloom Why rivers flow into the sea What brings the fog, what makes a hollow log Why I am me, not you, and you're not me I'm wondering what makes the world go round And why the moon affects the tide How children grow, so much I want to know I feel the questions running round inside Some day I'll know about so many things Some day I'll know the reasons why But just for now, I'll try to find out how As long as someone else will let me try I'm wondering about the stars so bright How far away they seem to be I wish that I could reach up in the sky And catch a star to fly away with me
